NJ CAN 2020 is a ballot question campaign that includes public safety, medical, civil rights, faith, industry, legal, labor, political, and criminal justice reform organizations and individuals committed to changing New Jersey’s laws to legalize, tax, and regulate cannabis for adult use.
Legalizing, taxing, and regulating cannabis will address the ongoing, tremendous harms caused by cannabis prohibition laws, which have disproportionately harmed communities of color. In New Jersey, Black people are arrested for cannabis-related offenses at a rate 3.5 times higher than white people, despite similar rates of use. As New Jersey works to legalize cannabis for adult use, it is imperative that we do so while centering racial and social justice.
NJ CAN 2020 carries this message forward as the campaign seeks to educate and engage voters to vote “yes” on the November 2020 ballot. Legalization will bring enormous benefits to New Jersey – economic and tax benefits, increased public health and safety, and greater racial and social justice.
NJ CAN 2020 stands firmly in support of these principles and goals, and is committed to including them in public messaging, voter education, and GOTV efforts.
